JEDCO seeking Marketing & PR Intern

The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) is an independent, yet complimentary arm of Jefferson Parish government with the main objective of attracting, growing, and creating new business in our area.  JEDCO’s mission is to proactively influence the economy through the retention and creation of quality jobs, entrepreneurship, and investment in Jefferson Parish.

Position Description
The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission seeks a Marketing & Public Relations Intern to assist the organization’s Marketing & PR Manager in all branding and outreach efforts on a variety of platforms.  The Marketing & PR intern will receive hands-on experience in connecting with local media, developing content for a variety of platforms, planning events, and optimizing online presence. Qualified candidates must be creative, enthusiastic, passionate, organized, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Intern will be provided with new and exciting opportunities based on his/her interests and will have an opportunity to work alongside a vibrant team dedicated to advancing the overall economic viability of Jefferson Parish and the Greater New Orleans region.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Media outreach and maintaining media contact lists (Constant Contact)
  • Monitoring a variety of business publications/sites every day
  • Compiling all Jefferson Parish business news for JEDCO’s quarterly newsletter
  • Identifying all mentions of JEDCO & Jefferson Parish in local/national news each week
  • Developing social media content
  • Developing content for the JEDCO blog
  • Monitoring and measuring analytics for JEDCO website and social media platforms
  • Developing the monthly JEDCO Media Packet (or something comparable)
  • Researching sponsorship packages
  • Preparing/updating JEDCO presentations for speaking engagements
  • Providing support at all JEDCO events (press conferences, Prosper Jefferson seminars, annual events)
  • Providing media buying support and research
  • Supporting Marketing & PR Manager with any other duties as necessary

Professional Attributes and Qualifications:

  • College junior or senior studying marketing, public relations, communications or advertising or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms & media monitoring tools
  • Experience with Constant Contact
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, maintaining a high level of professionalism to develop relationships
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments under tight deadlines
