New Huey P. Long Business Advisory and the Huey P. Long Community Advisory teams can now provide information on the $705-million widening project.
HPLBAT will update business owners on the bridge project and meet with project personnel. HPLCAT will similarly present information geared towards residents and commuters.
"The community and business advisory teams are another way we are keeping the public informed on the progress of the Huey P. Long Bridge Widening Project," said project spokesperson Talisha Dunn-Square. "The local public outreach offices and Web site will still be available but community meetings offer another way to bring the project to the community."
The initial HPLBAT meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie. The next scheduled meeting is May 9.
The initial HPLCAT meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Holiday Inn, 100 Westbank Expressway, Gretna. HPLCAT long-term meetings are scheduled quarterly from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the John A. Alario Event Center, 2000 Segnette Blvd., Westwego. The next scheduled meeting is May 10.
Advisory meetings will be held quarterly and then monthly, once construction begins on Phase III of the project, the main bridge widening.
For more information on the HPL BAT or CAT meetings or to receive a membership form, call 731-4200.
Membership to advisory teams is free and all meetings are open.
The completed Huey P Long Bridge Widening Project will include three 11-foot lanes in each direction, along with new inside and outside shoulders across the bridge. The project also will include construction of new roadway approaches that will provide signalized intersections at Bridge City Avenue and Jefferson Highway. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2012.
