Jefferson Parish Monitoring the Weather

According to the National Weather Service, Jefferson Parish is under a Flash Flood Watch this afternoon through tonight. In preparation for tonight's expected rain event Jefferson Parish has already manned each of its pump stations with operators and screen cleaners.
The Jefferson Parish Sewer Department has extra crews on standby and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be manned around the clock until the flash flooding threat has expired.
Citizens are asked to help reduce the chance of street flooding by clearing debris from their streets and drains around their property; such debris impedes water flow into the drainage system.
Motorists are urged not to drive on flooded streets. Parish Ordinance Section 36-188 prohibits motorists from traveling down flooded streets, which may increase the possibility of structural flooding due to wake action caused by moving vehicles.
Jefferson Parish Streets Department crews are on stand-by with barricades to close flooded streets. If floodwaters are threatening your home and you wish to have your street closed, contact 911 for assistance.
