Jefferson Expecting Another Round of Moderate to Heavy Rain

December 17, 2009

According to the 2:30 p.m. National Weather Service report, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for Jefferson Parish through late tonight. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

In preparation for tonight's expected rain event, Jefferson Parish has already manned the pump stations that require staffing until the threat of this rain event has passed.  Drainage crews have checked canals and removed any trash and obstructions.  Also, crews are cleaning and flushing drain lines and catch basins.

Due to the existing water and saturation of soil throughout the Parish, water may quickly begin to pond in low lying areas.

Jefferson Parish Emergency Managers urge citizens to keep informed of the latest weather conditions by listening to their television and radio stations.

The Jefferson Parish Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 349-5360, will be manned around the clock until the flash flooding threat has expired.
