Evacuations in Jefferson Parish

Jefferson Parish Emergency Managers have ordered a mandatory evacuation for the Westbank and a voluntary evacuation for the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish beginning tomorrow,  Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 8 a.m.

Currently, mandatory evacuations and a dusk to dawn curfew are in place for Grand Isle, Jean Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria and areas outside of the levee protection system.

A dusk to dawn curfew will be imposed starting tomorrow, Sunday, August 31, 2008 for unincorporated Jefferson Parish and all six municipalities for those residents who do not evacuate.

Jefferson Parish law enforcement agencies and the National Guard will be patrolling throughout the parish and cities to protect the property of citizens while they are away.  Law enforcement agencies will not tolerate any civil or criminal disobedience and those who do not have a responsible explanation for their presence will go to jail.  

Residents are asked NOT to place any or household garbage or trash on the curb for collection until the threat of Hurricane Gustav is over.  Household garbage and trash collection throughout Jefferson Parish ends today Saturday, August 30, 2008, until further notice depending on the track of Hurricane Gustav.

Today, Jefferson Parish has declared a State of Emergency. The Jefferson Parish Emergency Operating Center (EOC) has been operational and will remain activated until the threat of Hurricane Gustav is over.
