WORKFORCE TRAINING GRANTS

A variety of workforce training grants are available to assist employers with developing the skills of new and incumbent workers. Through these grants, new and existing businesses can customize training to meet specific business needs. Currently, On the Job Training grants (OJT) will reimburse 50% of qualified wages during the training period.  John Stiegman of the Jefferson Business and Career Solutions Center can assist you with this program.  He can be reached at (504) 227-1283

On-The-Job Training Program (OJT) - Jefferson Business and Career Solutions Center
Through OJT, employers can equip new, and under certain conditions, existing employees with the occupational skills typically required to obtain employment or advance in a company. Job Seekers can earn while they learn on-the-job. Employers receive reimbursement of up to 50 percent of a trainee's hourly wage throughout the training period. Occupations eligible for OJT must provide full-time, permanent employment and pay an entry-level wage of at least 1½ times the federal minimum wage.

Customized Training Program - Jefferson Parish Workforce Investment Board
Through the Customized Training program an employer or consortium of employers can design customized training courses to prepare individuals for entry-level positions in a specific occupation. The employer is reimbursed up to 50 percent of the cost of developing and delivering the training. Training is conducted in a classroom setting either at the business location or through a local training provider.

Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP)
This program is a partnership among the LA Department of Labor, approved training providers, and business and industry to provide customized training.  This allows the employer with a minimum of 15 employees who need training, an opportunity to determine what skill training is needed and to select a training provider.  The training improvements are expected to result in the retention of jobs that may otherwise have been eliminated, creation of new jobs and an increase in wages for the trained workers.  Employers must have been in business in the state for at least three years and contributing to and in full compliance with the state unemployment insurance tax laws.  Additional program guidelines and information on the program is available at the Department of Labor website http://www.laworks.net/.

Small Business Employee Training Program (SBET)
The Small Business Employee Training Program is meant to assist business and industry in the skill development of their present employees through individual, standardized (off-the shelf) training for Louisiana employers with 50 or fewer employees that have been in business in the state for at least three years and in full compliance with the state unemployment insurance tax laws.  Additional program guidelines and information on the program is available at the Department of Labor website http://www.laworks.net/

Workforce Development and Training Program (WDTP)
WDTP is a Louisiana Department of Economic Development program which funds customized workforce training for 1) Louisiana companies expanding into an additional location within our state or implementing a new technology or product line; 2) existing Louisiana businesses operating within the state for less than three years; and 3) out-of-state companies starting Louisiana operations. A minimum of 10 net new jobs must be created to qualify. Pre-employment and/or on-the-job training, taking place on the job or at a community/technical college, can qualify for funding.
