Economic Development Specialist

The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) is an independent, yet complimentary arm of Jefferson Parish government with the main objective of attracting, growing, and creating new business in our area. JEDCO’s mission is to proactively influence the economy through the retention and creation of quality jobs, entrepreneurship, and investment in Jefferson Parish.

Position Description
The Economic Development Specialist position facilitates business retention, expansion and attraction activities; provides economic development assistance on various projects as requested.

  • Primary Duties & Responsibilities
    • Implement JEDCO’s Busines Retention and Expansion program
    • Maintain retention database, sites database, marketing database, endangered businesses database and contacts database with various relevant information regarding businesses and property; special emphasis on quality control of retention database
    • Monitor & update the Jefferson Parish Economic Profile
    • Assist with business recruitment and retention
    • Maintain current real estate database for business retention and attraction prospects, arranging tours if needed. Retain and update real estate trends including rates and occupancy as well as developing relationship with the commercial real estate community.
    • Represent JEDCO at a variety of business development events
    • Other duties as assigned

Professional Attributes and Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Public Policy or Administration, or Business Administration
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in planning, policy, or economic development
• Masters Degree in lieu of experience
