JEDCO Hosts Small Business Financing Workshop

(Avondale, La) – Finding the right type of financing to suit your business needs can be tough. From identifying the right type of lender to giving the perfect pitch, there’s a lot of information that small business owners need to know in order to secure funding. The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) can help.

JEDCO will host “Funding Fundamentals: Secure the green you need to grow your business” on November 5th.  The small business financing workshop will provide attendees with the tools they need to connect with the right lenders and land the cash to grow a small business to its big potential.

The workshop will be split between an overview of lending options and an in-depth look at how to improve your chances of obtaining financing. Small business financing experts, Clayton White, founder of Simmons & White, LLC and an organizing member of the South Coast Angel Fund and Carmen Sunda, Director of the Louisiana Small Business Development Center Greater New Orleans Region (LSBDC GNOR), will present:

Funding Options for Your Company

Companies today have many options for getting the capital needed to start and/or grow the company. Learn what type of funding is available, and which type of category would fit your small business best. Companies are more successful in obtaining the funding needed if they understand the drivers of the funding entity.

How to Develop a Winning Funding Proposal

Once you know what type of funding you’re looking for, you’ve got to convince the funder that your company is a good fit for their money. You’ll learn how to approach a lender or investor. You’ll learn how to prepare essential documents and key questions a lender/investor may ask. Knowing what the funder is looking for and the questions the funder wants answered will improve your chances of obtaining the financing you need

Join us on November 5th at the new JEDCO Conference Center (701A Churchill Parkway) in Avondale from 8:00 AM-10:00 AM. Admission is free, but registration is required to attend. As Director of the LSBDC Greater New Orleans Region, Carmen Sunda is responsible for the management and operations of a seven parish regional SBDC with three university collaborative partners. The LSBDC GNOR empowers small business owners and entrepreneurs with the right tools, technical assistance, and resources to help their businesses start, grow, and succeed.  Sunda has more than 25 years of experience working with small businesses, including 10 years with the SBDC. Her areas of expertise include small business continuity, disaster preparedness and recovery, strategic marketing, loan packaging, market research, and management. She was named the Louisiana SBDC State Star in 2007 and awarded the SBA 2009 Financial Services Champion of the Year for the state of Louisiana. Under her leadership, the LSBDC GNOR was awarded the top Small Business Development Center in the nation, earning the U.S. Small Business Administration’s SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award in 2013. About Clayton White: Clayton White has over 25 years of experience working with start-up and early-stage companies. His background includes organizational structure, mergers and acquisitions, financial management and controls, capital structure, and corporate governance. He has taken companies through the venture capital process and is currently involved in company valuations, due diligence, planning, capitalization, and exit strategies. Mr. White is a member and organizer of the South Coast Angel Fund. The South Coast Angel Fund is a member-managed angel capital fund designed to utilize the capital, resources, and expertise of its members to profit from its investments in entrepreneurial, early-stage companies in Louisiana. Mr. White has a B.S. in Physics, an MBA, and a Juris Doctor. He is a member of the Louisiana and Alabama Bar. He sits on the boards of several companies, non-profits, and community organizations.
