Agency offers plan to improve Jefferson Parish’s housing stock, but making it happen won’t be easy

The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission has published a strategic plan to help improve the parish’s aging housing stock, much of which has grown obsolete and fallen out of favor among younger people who don’t share the same lifestyle priorities as their parents. The plan’s architects, who included public officials, bankers, real estate brokers and developers, know the plan isn’t a magic wand that will quickly counteract years of changing styles and tastes, but they say it can help the parish slowly redevelop its housing in a way that encourages mixed land uses, walkability and neighborhoods that are distinct from one another.
