JEDCO supports opening of new startup woman-owned law firm

(KENNER, La) — The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new startup law firm in Jefferson Parish on Wednesday. The Law Office of Lewis-Crawford, LLC, founded by attorney Jahida L. Lewis-Crawford, is an African-American, woman-owned business specializing in affordable, client-focused cases. The new company created four direct jobs in the community.

JEDCO played an important role in bringing this project to fruition.  The economic development organization financed nearly $290,000 of a $324,000 loan. The loan, which came out of the JEDCO Growth Fund (JEDgrow), covered startup costs including the purchase of equipment, supplies and furniture as well as operating expenses.

“Through our financing arm, we are able to provide entrepreneurs with the cash infusion needed to accomplish their business goals, achieve their visions for the future, and open their doors,” says JEDCO President & CEO Jerry Bologna. “We are happy to support Mrs. Lewis-Crawford in her efforts to serve the community through her knowledge and unique skill set. Born and raised in Kenner, Lewis-Crawford founded her law office after many years of dreaming about owning her own practice. She has extensive experience in many facets of the legal system, and one day hopes to be federally appointed to the United States Federal Court.
